We're so glad you're here!
My plant journey began in 2021 with a single golden pothos, which I brought home to add a little life and vibrancy to my apartment. Before I knew it, that one plant quickly grew into a lush jungle of 350+ houseplants, and planty pandemonium ensued! Between chaotic midnight repots and constantly running out of space, I realized it was time to share this passion with others.
I started out selling little propagations in local Facebook plant groups, which eventually turned into vending at plant and craft markets in our community. This year, our love for plants has grown even more with the start of my YouTube channel and now, our online storefront!
Emanuel has been part of this journey from the very start. Rather than shy away from the chaos, he jumped in wholeheartedly and embraced the #plantaddiction. He keeps our business running smoothly, joins me at every market, doubles as my YouTube cameraman (and occasional guest star!), and tackles whatever challenge comes our way. Together, we are the husband-and-wife duo behind Shy Girl Plants.
The Business
At Shy Girl Plants, every plant we offer, from beloved classics to rare collector’s gems, is homegrown and nurtured with love and care. Beyond plants, we create and curate high-quality plant care supplies, including homemade soil mixes, amendments, and our now-famous anti-pest leaf shine — all born from years of hands-on experience, trial, and error.
But Shy Girl Plants isn’t just about plants… it’s about PEOPLE. Our mission is simple: to share our love for houseplants (and cats!) while fostering connections and creating a welcoming space for plant parents of all experience levels to learn, grow, and thrive together.

How Shy Girl Plants Got Its Name
The name “Shy Girl Plants” comes straight from me — I’m Shayanne, but most people call me Shy. It’s what I like to call my “Starbucks name” — because let’s be honest, there’s no way they’re going to spell my full name right. (And yes, I used to work at Starbucks, so I can say that with confidence!)
Whenever I tell people my nickname, the most common response is, “Oh, are you a shy girl??” — which always makes me chuckle. I wouldn’t say I’m truly shy, but I am more quiet, thoughtful, and reserved. There’s something about that question that stuck with me, so when it came time to name my little plant business, it just felt right.
“Shy Girl Plants” became a way to share a piece of who I am — a girl named Shy, happiest when quietly caring for the plants that bring her so much joy. And thus, Shy Girl Plants was born!
